Exporting a calibration profile for ADAM Audio A Series speakers

Export your SoundID Reference calibration profile and run it on the ADAM Audio A-Series speakers for the lowest possible latency and highest convenience without using the plugin or standalone app.

With the SoundID Reference and ADAM Audio integration, you can export calibration profiles and import them straight onto your ADAM Audio A-Series speakers.

Measuring a stereo speaker configuration

Before the speaker measurement process, we recommend taking a look into the A Control Software and making sure the following options have been addressed:

  • Set the Adaptation (voicing) to Pure
  • Use default values (0.0 dB) for speaker Level and Delay
  • Make sure the speakers sound as-is e.g. the four bands of equalization are set to default
  • Double-check the backplate of the monitors as the same results should be applied and visible

To begin, launch the SoundID Reference Measure app. The 5-stage measurement process will take around 20-30 min to complete, depending on the complexity of your multichannel setup configuration:

  1. Hardware setup -selecting the stereo configuration and the audio interface you're working with, using test tones to verify the output channels, adjusting the microphone gain
  2. Listening spot - the front L and R speakers will be measured to determine the distance and noise floor, and the listening spot will be established. You will be able to review and fine-tune the dimensions of your listening area
  3. Volume matching - manual and automatic adjustment options will be provided for adjusting individual channel volume for matching levels at the listening spot
  4. Room response - a series of measurements (37 in total) will now take place to measure the frequency response of your speakers and room
  5. Results - Once the entire measurement process is complete, the results will be displayed - you can observe the frequency response of your setup in detail for the first time

Exporting the calibration profile

With the measurement process completed and a calibration profile saved, please follow these instructions:

  1. Launch SoundID Reference standalone app
  2. Load your calibration profile
  3. Choose one of the three target curves - Flat Target, Dolby Atmos Music, Custom Target
  4. Export the calibration profile

The exported calibration profile will include:

  • Calibration Curve: Applied calibration curve of the measured speakers
  • Target Curve: determined by the target mode: Flat, Custom EQ, Translation Check, Dolby Atmos music curve
  • Dry/Wet: the level of calibration applied
  • Listening Spot: volume and timing differences measured between speakers
  • Limit Controls: frequency range affected by calibration
  • Preset name: Name of the calibration profile

NOTE! The Safe Headroom parameters won't be used from the export file. ADAM Audio A-Series speakers internal processing after AD conversion is 32-bit float, therefore, there's no need for extra headroom, which means that the Safe Headroom feature can be turned off in the SoundID Reference app, or the Safe Headroom values simply won't be applied during the calibration profile import.

 

Calibration Limit modes

SoundID Reference offers three calibration limit modes - Normal (12 dB), Reduced (6 dB), and No Boost (0 dB). It's recommended to use 'No Boost (0 dB)' when you're exporting your profile to ADAM Audio A-Series. The other modes can provide you with a bass boost if you are lacking the punch, however, the superposition of sound waves leads to the cancelation or amplification of the overlapping amplitudes. If you have amplified the bass signal, the reflected signal is also amplified, which only leads to more cancelation. At the same time, the addition of wave at another point in the room is amplified even further. Therefore the recommendation is to export the calibration profile using the 0 dB export and treating massive dips in the bass range with positioning and room acoustics. 

 

Importing the calibration profile to A-Control software

The exported calibration profile will be saved as an ADAM export file (stereo_speakers.adam) and needs to be loaded into the A-Control software:

  1. Launch the A Control Software
  2. Click on the ⋮ (top-left corner) and select the 'Load SoundID preset' option
  3. Select your calibration profile export file
  4. Confirm and verify your speaker channels 
  5. Click the 'Apply' button to apply the calibration profile
