5.1 Surround Support

Adding 5.1 support to SoundID would be such a boon to the post-production community. There are currently no cost-effective solutions for multi-channel room correction for individual editors, mixers, sound designers, and composers.

I don't think you'd need to go wider than 5.1 either, at least not yet. There's a good chance that if someone is running a 7.1 or larger system, they can also afford a Trinnov or JBL Intonato or the like.

However many, many people have simple 5.1 setups at home and in small rooms where those investments aren't justified.

I love my Reference 4 correction for stereo speakers. I won't profess to know how easy or hard it would be to implement, but if I could just run the same process on my center, rear channels, and subwoofer, it would be a game changer for how my mixes sound in my home studio. I talk to other mixers and editors all the time who feel the same.

You would be opening yourselves up to a whole new film/TV market, especially at a time when more and more of us are working from home and need a decent solution that doesn't cost thousands of dollars. And I will be the first to vouch for you!

Please consider adding this to your development pipeline! It would also give me a reason to upgrade to SoundID ;)

Cheers,

David Tichauer

Hey David,

Thanks for your post and for showing interest in a 5.1 setup support! You are correct that multi-channel systems are currently not supported in SoundID Reference, but we are taking user requests for this seriously. We may be able to offer multi-channel support in the future, but I'm afraid I'm not able to provide specific ETAs at the moment.

Any news on 5.1 support for systemwide? This is what I'm waiting for to purchase a license. I work in video games and I need to be able to have my 5.1 profile working outside of my DAW. Please let me know if it's still on track for 2023!

Hi SM, thanks for your comment!

At this time, we don't have an ETA to share for when multichannel calibration may be supported in the SoundID Reference standalone app, but it will not be available within 2023. I hope we can share some more positive news on this down the line. Thanks for letting us know that you would be interested in this feature!

Thanks for your response Zane! Is it still planned at all? I think it will be a game changer since a lot of sound interfaces don't even let you control the volume of multichannel speakers with their master volume knob. People often have to buy an expensive knob that supports their multichannel configuration. Not only will this allow us to have a master volume no matter what soundcard we have, but the calibration obviously makes a huge difference while playing games or using any multichannel supported apps, videos etc..
