Measuring a stereo speaker configuration

Before the speaker measurement process, we recommend making sure the following steps have been addressed:

  • With the monitor’s power off, connect the left & right audio outputs of your interface to the left & right XLR inputs of the monitors.
  • Position the Input switch to Analog (up position in photo) & position the other room switches to the zero (center) position.
  • IMPORTANT: Make sure the output volume level on your audio interface is turned down.
  • Power on your Image 2 monitors & check that you have audio when connected.
  • The Image 2 DSP internal audio output sample rate is 192kHz / 24 bit, so you can set your audio interface to any sample rate up to 192kHz.
  • You are now ready to begin the measure, export, and upload process.
  • A measuring microphone is needed to perform the measurements

To begin, launch the SoundID Reference Measure app. The 5-stage measurement process will take around 20-30 min to complete, depending on the complexity of your setup configuration:

  1. Hardware setup -selecting the stereo configuration and the audio interface you're working with, using test tones to verify the output channels, adjusting the microphone gain
  2. Listening spot - the front L and R speakers will be measured to determine the distance and noise floor, and the listening spot will be established. You will be able to review and fine-tune the dimensions of your listening area
  3. Volume matching - manual and automatic adjustment options will be provided for adjusting individual channel volume for matching levels at the listening spot
  4. Room response - a series of measurements (37 in total) will now take place to measure the frequency response of your speakers and room
  5. Results - Once the entire measurement process is complete, the results will be displayed - you can observe the frequency response of your setup in detail for the first time

If you're having difficulties following the process, or if you're encountering any warnings, we recommend following this guide: Stereo speaker measurement troubleshooting guide

Exporting the calibration profile

With the measurement process completed and a calibration profile saved, please follow these instructions for the export:

  1. Launch SoundID Reference standalone app;
  2. Add your output device and load your calibration profile;
  3. Choose one of the target curves - Flat Target, Dolby Atmos Music, Custom Target, Translation Check;
  4. Export the calibration profile via the output panel.

The exported calibration profile will include:

  • Calibration Curve: Applied calibration curve of the measured speakers
  • Target Curve: determined by the target mode: Flat, Custom EQ, Translation Check, Dolby Atmos music curve
  • Dry/Wet: the level of calibration applied
  • Listening Spot: volume and timing differences measured between speakers
  • Limit Controls: frequency range affected by calibration
  • Preset name: Name of the calibration profile

Uploading the calibration profile to Fluid Audio Image 2 speakers

Once you've exported the calibration profile, upload it to your Image 2 speakers:

  1. Launch Fluid Audio DCT tool
  2. Click on the 'Select' button to find the calibration profile you have exported. Now press the Filename.
  3. When the calibration file is loaded, DCT will automatically populate the Profile field to 192kHz and Channel field to Left (the 192kHz cannot be changed, but the Left can be changed to Right, depending on which speaker you start with). Choose which Profile you want to install to (it will turn blue when selected) and press Upload to begin uploading the calibration file to your Image 2 monitor.
  4. Once you have pressed Upload, DCT shows the progress. This should only take a few seconds.
