[MAC] Collecting spindumps for frozen apps (freeze dumps)

In case a DAW or any other software freezes when SoundID Reference plugin is inserted or the Measure or standalone app is launched on your Mac, collect and share Spindumps for further investigation.

Software freeze

It can happen that inserting the SoundID Reference plugin in DAW, or launching the SoundID Reference standalone app, causes third-party software to freeze up. Even if it is SoundID Reference itself that freezes, the Spindump can help us understand what caused it and how to resolve it. Examples when it's useful:

  • DAW freezes
  • The standalone app or Measure is unresponsive
  • Playback platform with plugin host
  • A freeze of third-party software when SoundID Reference is launched

SpinDump collection

Here are the steps to take for collecting and sending over the spindump in case of a software freeze.

  1. Open Finder > Applications > Utilities
  2. Launch Activity Monitor.
  3. Select the frozen app from the list of processes.
  4. Press View (...) and choose "Run Spindump." from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click "Save" to save the generated report.
  6. Open Terminal by going to Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal. Paste and execute this command in the Terminal:
